Mulch Math

posted Mar 29, 2015, 2:41 PM by Kent Riggins
If each bag averaged 45 lbs., and it does, and we had 2,700 bags, which we did, the total weight is 121,500 lbs. We had to move the bags from the pallet to the back of the truck, from the back of the truck to the front of the truck, from the front of the truck to the back of the truck, and from the back of the truck to the delivery point. A total of 4 moves, the total weight moved was 486,000 pounds. If we averaged 20 people moving mulch, each person had to move 24,300 lbs. If you are tired you should be. Not bad for a bunch of Scouts. By the way if we moved 486,000 lbs. of gold it would be worth $7 Billion Dollars. Next year I vote to move gold, or feathers.

Without providing the math, trust me on this one, we carried the mulch a total of 229,000 feet. That is the same as carrying a single bag 43.37 miles. Kind of makes caterpillaring our Troop Rock 3.5 miles seem simple.

Enjoy a well deserved rest.
