\We have just begun the astronomy merit badge. Some of you may be aware that there is a full lunar eclipse visible in our area Tue. Dec. 21, totally occurring 3:17 am. For what is a lunar eclipse and a neat animation see http://en.wikipedia.org/December_2010_lunar_eclipse The University of MD observatory will have a viewing and I'm getting us invited for those who want to attend. [This is where we have our program scheduled for the merit badge 2/20/11 7:00 pm.] My question to you -- are you interested and will you commit to driving and helping your Scout attend. Please note that HC schools can grant an excused absense for a good reason and I'm confident this will qualify. Obviously not a convenient time but my memories decades later of a lunar eclipse are of the event and not lack of sleep or cold. Caveat, I can't guarantee clear skies. Please get back to me with you level of ability/interest/commitment. Thanks, Richard Bernstein |
