To All,
A number of Scouts are doing the Citizenship in the Community merit badge, for which requirement #7 involves 8 hours of service time in support of a charitable organization outside of Scouting.
Matthew is involved with an organization starting Sunday, and with permission from Mr. George I'd like to make this opportunity available to others.
The organization is the Howard County Striders [], a local running club that is involved in numerous running activities, and training/fitness and charitable events associated with running.
Matthew is supporting the annual Penguin Pace 5-K race this Sunday, which is an event that benefits the Florence Bain Senior Citizens Center.  Others who might wish to join us this Sunday at 7:00 am at the Florence Bain Center to work on the race course can earn 2 hours of time towards the 8 hour requirement.
On Feb. 27, there is another opportunity, 7:00 am at Howard Community College.  I am the race director for this race, and similar opportunities are available for 4 hours of service.  Similar opportunities will be available at other Striders events later in the Winter and Spring.
Please note that part of requirement #7 involves learning about the organization the Scout is supporting, and I can provide assistance with this.
I'd like to note also that my partner is many of these events is Mr. Paul Goldenberg, a Scouter with Troop 601 and a former National Pike District Executive.
Please contact me with any questions.
Mr. Bernstein
