Cabin Camping (Camp Rodney, Fisherman Lodge, 8-9 Jan) Permission Slips Reminder

January 8th is fast approaching with the next couple of weeks being off with the Holidays so this is a reminder that we need your permission slips turned in by this Thursday. If, for some reason, you cannot get that turned in this Thursday, I need at least a commitment to attend (I will be at the game night this Friday, but will not be able to attend the meeting this Thursday).

If you haven't camped in colder weather, please ask about some tips for your scout (or yourself - please join us!) on keeping warm. Simple things like having a hat and gloves, and wearing good socks (not cotton! they hold moisture from your feet and then your feet get cold). You will still need a warm sleeping bag, even if you sleep in the cabin as it can get as cold as the 30's to 40's away from the fireplace (and we will need a fire watch if we keep it going over night).

We will eat well (and many thanks to Jim Williams for handling the culinary end of things) - food is hearty, hot and filling (we have a kitchen) and hot chocolate will be available along with a good cracker barrel in the evening with a movie. We have a suggested movie we will be getting (a surprise!).

And let's not forget the day - scouts will learn about orienteering, compete in a pacing event, get some achievements done, and still have time for additional fun. I hope to see many of the scouts there.

Please ask questions if you are unsure about anything - I've been on at least six of these cabin camp outs and have seen enough to forget half of it by now. Remember, the unasked question can't be answered.

I'm looking forward to the trip - but please let us know whether you will be going this week! Thanks!
