To All,

I’m confirming next Sun. 2/20 for our trip to the University of MD Observatory for the astronomy MB.

Scouts:  Please see the attached sheet describing 3 types of telescopes.  I’m going to ask you to point out each of the 3 in the UMD observatory and draw a diagram of how they work and describe their advantages and disadvantages.  My expectation is that this trip will help you with requirements 1a, 2, 3 a – d.  You should be able to do some of 4 a – d and 5 a – d, 6 a – d, 7 a – c.  Be prepared to know what these are.

Be prepared to ask questions.  There is a lecture at 8:00 and an observing session shortly after.  I’m sure we will not be able to get everything done and 1 – 2 more observing sessions will be necessary.  Nonetheless, you will find resources in the lecture room and you will have opportunities to ask questions of the faculty and observatory student staff.

Scouters – I would like to get a count of Scouts and adults and cars.  Plan is to leave the Church at 7:00, arrive a 6:45.  Carpooling is recommended.  Please let me know who can come.  I would like to provide a count when I confirm.  I will be at Thursday’s meeting.

I have the following Scouts signed up with blue cards:

Andrew, Joey, Nabil, Hadar, Brooklyn, Chayne, Matthew, Anthony, Jimmy, Brian.

Directions and “first timers” information: http://www.astro.umd.edu/openhouse.

Mr. Bernstein
